Went out for an explore today with the wife and son around the back of Brissy.
Ended up doing some prospecting withut plan thanks to my boy.

He was plaing around in a park and I was looking at some rocks he was standing near and was admiring the quartz veins all though them, and on closer inspection there was color!
The more I looked the more popped up.
Sad to say I didn't have any tools with me to extract the rocks from the ground to take home for further processing, but I did find a couple smaller loose ones I could grab.

While i was here I took a picty of the more colorful rock I could find...

Because of the sunlight I couldn't get much of a glint off the phone camera so can a few filters to bring out the color..

I also found a survey marker nearby, is there any place to look up the serial number of the marker and find what they found/looking for?

I got a couple of rocks I grabbed but under white led light they only have a couple small.clusters on them, hopefully inside after I crush there will be a few more, as this rock is almost as big as a footy.

Feel free to play with ffilters on my original photo to bring.the colors out in it, as I only had a quick play with my phone options.

It's all in small clusters mostly close to the quartz veins in the volcanic rock so hopefully is the right yellow coloured stuff.

At least it gives me something to do the rest of the holidays, make a mini rock crusher on the electronic cheapo lol....hammer drill and a m12 hardened bolt lol

Some closeups through a 30x loupe, was very hard to balance rock, loupe, torch and phone lol still couldn't get the glint I so desired..

Hey joe I think you are onto something there. If its' not gold it may well be copper pyrite. I found a quartz reef inside a mine years ago that looked for all the world like it had gold in it until I broke some out and examined it under natural light. Then it looked more brassy than gold. It eventually tarnished to a purpley hue.

Jethro.

Jethro, after going over the rocks with the loupe, I did find some coppery colored spots, and also some silvery looking spots

Well after a lot of stuffing around trying to make a heavy weighted end for my air chisel, I gave up for today after making a nice piece from a stub axel with a bolt tapped into the end of it.

So I decided to finish the day off panning what I had managed to get to powder form and would fit through a 3mm mesh.

Results are amazing, from a small rock just bigger then my hand, with only maybe 15% of it powered, I got about 25 specs
Albiet it I don't have a snuffer bottle so had to pick them on my finger under a 30x loupe scope.
I also founs my pan has a crack in it
So I wil have to go and buy a snuffer bottle to make life easier next time.
No photo as he specs as said above I needed to see them under a scope, guess this is what happens when it's so finely powdered.

Should prove a good haul of flour gold when I get the larger rock crushed up and panned out

Now if only someone can let me use thier crusher it would make life so much easier, as my neigbours kick a stink when I run the compressor for the chisel, let along the sound of billet steel bouncing rocks in a steel pan lol

Trick to geology Joe, when white light fails use a black light, you can get a fairly decent led black light on eBay for under $10.00.
