I was mucking around in the man cave and was looking for some hard plastic. Saw an old tv on the roadside so bought it home.
After taking the back off I saw the de gausing coil and decided to pull it out and weigh it. It ended weighing in at around 1kg of copper. That's around $10 worth or equivalent in price to 0.15g of gold!

That's class 3 copper, the laminations are impurites, scrapping class 1 copper is 2.50 to 3.00. So its value is really only about 40 cents like that. Burn off the insulation ( not recommended as the shire and epa will be at your door ) or smelt it in a crucible with filter and fume hood. I rip apart tvs for that copper and also the coil which is wrapped in tape around the outside of the screen front.

Watch out with tv's as they can hold a few thousand volts which has killed scrappers in the past. Either learn how to short out the screen or just keep away from the thick tube with the rubber plug which enters the screen. To be safe, keep one hand behind your back if its unsafe and holds charge to prevent a full shock through your heart.

Oh sorry it is the outer ring coil.. :8

Don't forget the copper rings joined onto the cathode tube.. use a phillips head screwdriver to loosen the clamps and gently twist them off. The rings/position adjusters will need to be gently pried off next. The coil has tape between it and the glass , so another gentle twist and pull or lever up using a flathead screwdriver will get it off

Do you mean this part? :)

I wanted that part too. The high voltage transformer will be part of a PI detector that I'm making with a 10 mtr diameter coil. (deep seeking)

I've worked on some geophysical scans for BHP where we ran out the coil out in 2 klm circles using quad bikes and then hit it with 500volts.
When switched off the decaying magnetic field induces a back voltage in the coil and this is read and interpreted by the geophysicist.
Just like a PI detector only BIG.
