I have never seen so many Toadstools around our as place as this year. They grow mainly under, around the Silver Birch trees which we have quite a few about.

This red type you will see growing from time to time in the pine forests,I guess it could due to the wet season that we are having.

The red ones look like they might be Amanita Muscaria.

And just after I wrote that I had a squiz at wiki who said this
"Amanita muscaria has been unintentionally introduced to many countries in the Southern Hemisphere, generally as a symbiont with pine and birch plantations"

The fact that yours are growing under Birch trees would seem to confirm that they are Amanita Muscaria.

They can be eaten after they have been par boiled to flush out the toxins. But why would you bother when you can go to the shops and buy perfectly safe to eat mushies.

I'll always remember riding into Sheep yard Flat in Vic in the early 1980's to the MRA's Howqua run. It was icy cold in the middle of winter, and my first sight as we came into a clearing was a man walking around totally naked, except for a Viking helmet on, oblivious to the cold. There were people all laughing, drinking, fornicating, and eating the gold cap mushrooms as they found them. It was total chaos, and realizing we'd never get a much needed good nights sleep, we turned around and rode on, only to hear later that that night the crazy mushroomed *******s blew the toilets up. :awful:
