Whats the fastest you have found a piece of gold after turning on and starting up? First chance today to use my new sdc2300. Turned on and found my first piece in 7mins:) Neat little 0.18gm. Went to an area where i have picked up about a dozen bits with the 7000 so i knew it was there abouts. Conditions were pretty ordinary though with full creeks, tall grass, high humidity and then i pretty much got electically stormed out of my camp!

3 days stru for me in any one spot. I think I would have to trip over it getting out of the car to beat 7 mins.

Not really turn on and find, but I was digging a target not long ago, and put my detector down to dig. As the coil hit the ground, it screamed. I dug a bit, then used the detector to pin point, put it down again, and it screamed again. Dug a small bit, maybe 1/2 a gram, then filled the hole and started to detect again. First swing over where I put it down, and scored a nice 1.6grammer, then about 5 more tiddlers. Then nothing, thought I'd hit the mother load for a few minutes!

Moving forward I don't think I could beat 30 secs but definitely got my first within a minute of so on a couple of occasions . Funny thing is then its taken a couple of hrs for the next one but hey that's prospecting.

Seems a trend is starting that when the first is found fast the next can take a while! Samrota from what i hear a piece at jupiter is a pretty good effort:) And Davent i wanna know if that happens again for you, classic! The gold i've found fast has been in areas where its likely to be from past efforts or good info from old timers - to be scouting new ground and find some gold, fast or slow, must be super rewarding

Pulled up to a new spot on the edge of a reef that had been worked over hard...set-up, switch on, gb 5' off v/h drivers door side, walked around the front of the bonnet and next sweep hit a 0.6gm bit...three days later only one more sub gram bit, and a 10 gmer at the head of the cut in the reef...

I had another similar on another spot i had been referred to....in total i have had a few under 5-10 minutes, and have come to be wary rather than excited,...at least until such time as further color comes to light to negate any concerns. ;)

Don't know the time part but the photo shows the distance I walked and I didn't start swinging till I was about 10 metres from the ute. First little bit (.4gm) for the trip. About 7 gms all for the trip.

For me, pretty much as fast as I could do the cancel on the SDC and get the coil on the ground on the very first day out with it (second week of release) and in the rain no less. First signal was a tiny little nug at an inch depth that more resembled wire gold and definitely took longer to locate with the scoop then to find initially. So maybe 5 seconds or two sweeps of the coil all up?

The Zed was a similar scenario, though I think it was the second morning of use while out swinging with Reeks. Only swung for about five metres (while still trying to get the hang of the GB in wet ground) and got a nice signal. Reeks came over to help dig it out as he was as excited as I was to see the result and after digging around ten inches deep we couldn't believe it when a nice bright, flat flake of gold showed up stuck in the muddy scoop.

My very first gold found with the GPX5000 was much more of an effort. Took several weeks of continuous swinging running all sorts of coil combo's. The very first 0.6gm nug showed up one late arvo just prior to sunset (6:56pm going by the photo exif), then followed up immediately about a foot away with another 0.5gm nug. Just using the little NF Sadie. That was definitely a top afternoon! :D

You really feel spoiled on those occasions when the early gold shows up!

Cheers,
Shauno.

I was very impressed when that nug popped out at such depth Shauno.
