Spent the afternoon at Jupiter Creek swinging the 705. No gold or pre-decimals but I did have my youngest son with me. So a great afternoon out (apart from the weather)
The 705 hardly stopped singing. Hot rock after hot rock and the ground is variable to say the least. But I don't think I have been out yet without bringing something home.

Three spent blank 223 cartridges, a bullet and heaps of wire and other rubbish. Recon I found enough wire to go around a football field  .

Good to drag my son away from the computer though. See a bit of the bush, even if it was a bit wet. :). Think I might buy a second detector for either my son or wife to use. I'm sure there are worse things to spend my cash on. :)

Good to hear that the boy was away from the "puter" I did the same to my boys today.
Well done a few interesting items there.
Cheers
Brad.....

Nice little haul with the 705 .... interesting that you mention hot rocks and variable ground affecting the 705.
Nemad from one of the Facebook groups recently posted a vid of the SDC in action there, quiet as a mouse, a couple of small bits of yellow and the odd shorty pellet ...... the SDC ran well in a very trashed (his words) area.

Even better to get out with the kids/family, priceless.
Cheers Tom

Yeah Nenad had told me the better places to go with a VLF detector. I'm just not to familiar with the area. I will do a bit of research for the right spot to go next time. The SDC is a PI unit and can handle bad ground much better then a VLF.
I was using the 18khz coil and found that when it went off it **** I could stitch it to coin mode and check the target. It would then show iron clearly (wire). The bullet casings showed a constant 22.
I'm still learning so I could be setting it up wrong from the start. I have a long way to go before I can say I have mastered it. Having a good time getting out of the house in any case.

Cheers

Not the easiest of places to use any sort of vlf, I had a detect around some of the old ruins over the north eastern side (sheets of corrugated iron, small pine trees), found an old button or two from there. Certainly an area that is more suited to a PI detector over a VLF. Good to see the young fella getting out and about. :)

Cliff send me an email and I can point you in the right direction. That spot where I was using the SDC in the video would be very trying for the 705.

Hi Phase tech. I watched that video, excellent. How would an all metal vlf go at Watts Gully? I have a GMZ, that's 50khz i think....

Coyote : Nice finds , I find lots of shells, but never a bullet.

I used to run a Whites V/sat up at Mt. Crawford, also 50 kHz and found it a handful, but that was with a concentric coil. Do you have a DD coil on the GMZ? If so sections of Watts Gully are not too bad mineralisation wise, but you may have better luck on the slope on the eastern side of the gully that heads towards snake gully. Lots of quartz here, and pretty mild.

Yeah, I have the DD, so that's a good start :).
Not too sure which snake gully you are referring to. But I think I may head there Monday and have a swing around the Rocky Creek Rd / Watts Gully Road intersection. What could go wrong !

Thanks for the advice, appreciated.

Nice work getting the son out for a detect. Jupiter creek is a great place to detect if you want a chance to pick up a few nuggets hidden amongst the dense scrub. Small sniper coils to get into the nooks and crannies are a good idea here. The amount of .22 bullets and other non-ferrous metal still coming out of there tells me it hasn't had as much action by detectors as some say it has. Still lots of potential for someone willing to put in some hours there as well as at chapel hill
