The mystery of the missing gold nugget
Found near Wedderburn in 1981, the ‘Pride of Australia‘ was once the largest Victorian gold nugget on display in Australia and was housed in the State Library of Victoria.
One fateful night in 1991, the nugget was stolen from its case in the Library's Stawell Gallery (now Cowen Gallery), never to be seen again. Was it an inside job or a crime of opportunity?
