Just came back after 5 blissful days camping in the GT.
Has been nearly a month since the last trip and what a change.

Went to a nice spot and did not see another human for the duration.

Bird life abundant, all manner of lizards and creepy crawlies re-appearing, only saw the one RBB snake tho, very
prominent coloring this early in the season.
And the joint is has a green tinge about it, the dams are full.

And the bloody flies are back, do yourself a favour and wear a mozzy net.
No Luck with the yabbies, still a tad too early.

My FIL is off on holidays soon so I get to mind his house in Dunolly for 3 weeks.
Looking forward to that.

On the way out noticed a lot of campers in the Waanyarra campgrounds.

Nice Redfin. The place is looking a treat and weather forecast looks good. I am aware that another forum is having a big meeting at Laanacoorie this weekend (11 - 13) -Wombat has posted some info. There should be a few about between the park, Dunolly and Tarnagulla I would suspect. get in early for the cheese sausage rolls at the Dunolly bakery!!!

PS = you didn't happen to see my yabby nets get nicked from the Long Gully Dam did you?

Bugger, I lost 2 as well,
had mine not far from yours near the corner of Thorpe and Sammy.
I presumed I had not tied up correctly and a tortoise took them.
Now I wonder seeing yours were only half a K away.

no mate - mine were most definatley lifted. i spotted some boot marks that were not mine. i dont think the wanyarra campers would do it?! remember the bloke up on secret hill who used to think owned the whole site - had a long term camp up there. now there is a place that has been detected to within an inch of its life. i also see some of the deeper mine shafts have been filled in as well. i tend to give the whole area a miss but go there every now and then. done ok, nothing to big. the ground is very deep in places but still see people detecting where its about 10 feet down to the gravels or hard clay. good luck in there mate. thats a nice bit of soil you have camped on too.

I'll give you the tip, yabbie pots are illegal in Victoria they will get picked up and thrown in the back by any farmer in the area. I bought 5 from lyal eales in maryborough when I first moved back to vic and one by one they got lifted over a week period. Apparently your only allowed to use them on your own private property :( love my yabbies too
Can still use the old lamb chop on a piece of string trick :)

True..., that's awesome I've never used drop nets I thought you were talking operas thanks Redfin I'll be buying some of those real soon. Do you use meat or potoroos for your bait? Or soap

I've experimented with bait. Roo, dog biscuits, anything with blood. even the old rockmelon. funnily enough some of them are fussy but plenty of dead roos around the GT so thats what I mainly use.

I mainly use left over meat, tied in a stocking [ not mine lol]

Great looking camp spot Redfin, I'd say that's a keeper 8) especially with the extras ( yabbies) :D

Sunlight soap in a stocking works every time.
No smelly meat for this man.
Always have a cake in the 4b and some stocking with para cord.

Also it goes in the survival kit back pack.
Cheers
