We'd seen Swipers Gully had been closed due to the rain events over the past few weeks, so today we decided to hike in and see how bad things were. If you decide to try the route on the Department of Nat Resources & Mines map you won't get 50m off Goldfields road, Pine Forest Rd has gone!
The trench Dinah is looking into is about 1.5m deep!
About half a klm up the road the causeway is now a creek.
When you reach the top the road doesn't exist, my wife gives some scale to how deep the cutaway is and this is the shallower end.
Past the T junction things improve on the next section but there are still washaways crossing the road, one has had a log dropped in it so 4x4s can cross.
This hole is severely undercut and about 800mm plus deep, if you hit it you're not getting out in a hurry without a rear winch!
Overall the road damage is so extensive, it's better traffic is kept to an absolute minimum as the roads will continue to deteriorate with traffic and it is going to take Forestry, or who ever, to get all this damage repaired.
When we finally got to Swipers, this was the view.
Beautiful for a cooling swim
