Another specimen the father-in-law brought over. I'm not sure what it is but it has some strange maggot thing going on. I highly doubt it's anything special but I said I would ask. Any ideas?

Looks like his rice pudding didn't agree with him.

Or

Fossilised poo from a grass-seed eating dinosaur

Rice pooding.(fossilised).
Does indeed look maggoty when you go in really close for a look though Nugget.
Maybe you should get a professional opinion on its lineage and get back to us all about it, as it is definitely very interesting, maybe a university or a museum would be of assistance.

I would say if its easy to scratch with a knife it may be a calcium stalagmite offen found in caves cut a small bit off it and do a acid test with normal vinegar and put it in for 4 or 5 days if it devolves it will be calcium if not it could be rock crystal type of quartz

Perhaps not so special to you, but a mineral collector might be interested... It looks interesting.

It could be calcite: a less destructive way to find out is to scratch it with a knive. If it scratches, it's almost certainly calcite.

The more I look at your photo's the more I think it's not calcite, the crystal formation is odd.
Does it have a 'skin'? Do the crystals sit on or in a matrix? A host rock? Can you post a pic of the outside/backside of the pieces?
