sluice mesh

I'm new to gold panning and I thought I would like to build a small river sluice, something around 90cm. - 1mt.in length 18cm.wide but I'm not sure what to use for mesh. Expander mesh or plastic bread crate. I want to keep it as simple as possible.

Both work well in highbankers mate, guess it comes down to personal choice and availability, if you can, have both, bread crate and expanded that can be swapped out at your leisure to suit the one sluice box,
Water flow would be a governing factor especially with a river sluice

Thanks Dwt I've started on the project i think I'll run both, bread crate at the top with some expander mesh at the bottom. I'll put up some pics up when I'm done. Then hopefully out this weekend and give it a try.... Yeah wicked avatar.
