Hi, I am Mike.
I am semi retired, looking to spend some time detecting in Australia, West side preferably.
I am looking for recommendations on places to visit, where to stay or to camp, etc.
I will be using the minelab 3030 .
I could use some company of a like minded buddy?

Welcome Mike , you've picked the right place to ask for advice , I'm not the the right person to give you that info but there are a lot of members here that can help you.
Good luck with the semi retirement  sound good to me.

Welcome Squizzy. You're in a good spot in the west. I suppose where you detect depends on what resources you have and how far you want to travel, eg. Perth to Kalgoorlie? Leonora, Laverton, Sandstone, Halls Creek and many more from what we hear and research. Google Gold Prospecting in WA. We're retired, and had a few months away this year with friends, WA NT and Qld. Most of it was free camping and luckily the weather was mostly good as well.

Hallo Googs and Jacko, and thank you for your welome and chat, I appreciate that very much.
I am experienced in the UK detecting and have belonged to a club in the past for a few years where my detecting was done with an old C Scope 1220 (loved it to bits), which found me many hammered silver, but strangely, no gold but for a cheap emerald and diamond teenagers ring dug out from underneath a pier on the South coast.
With regard to Australia, I am a novice, but have done a little research, trying to get the place which may offer the best odds from intensive searching over a period of months??
I would ideally like a base point (budget) from where I can set out daily. I have no camping stuff or transport , but Yea hell do I have patience and determination and technology.
I admit Kalgoorlie was my prime target, based on information gained during research....

Welcome to the forum Mike. Great hobby to take up in your semi retirement, and a great way to see what this great country of ours has to offer in both minerals and scenery.

WA is en extremely large plot of dirt, and research is a must as a lot of the area is under EL's. There's a lot of gold still in the ground but it gets harder to find each year and the easy to get areas see many coils swung over them.

If you have a 4wd...(almost a must for consistent results) your chances will be dramatically increased. Hope the forum is of help in your research and there are quite a few members who venture West during winter, who can give you good advice. Best of luck and look forward to chatting on the threads.

Cheers Wal. :)

Hi Wal.
Extreme apologies for not replying in good time to your extremely encouraging advice and tips.
I am up in the air with my future, at the mo , so I am on hold for the time being.
Thank you for showing an interest.
Squizzy........
