before i give myself a headache from reading 40 pages of internet tech forums .......

do people have recommended do's and dont's on the subject of rugged smart phones ?

i need to upgrade and want the usual ;

waterproof
dustproof
outdoor viewable screen
GPS
long battery life
good camera
memory card slot
WiFi
Bluetooth

full windows OS would be good but android could be considered
prefer non apple product

i have seen some with dual SIM card slots ..... wot the ? what does a bloke need dual SIMS in Oz for ??

i am leaping up from the dark chasm of a motorola Defy which Fred Flinstone would have rejected

My boys seem to be able to break any phone, however there is a Samsung s5 for tradies, wp to 3 mtrs, not sure about dual sims, good camera

Dual sims are good for people who have a personal phone and also a work phone..Saves carrying 2 devices all the time.

and i guess you could have one cheap phone plan for high usage in city areas with a crepe provider like vodaphone , and the other SIM for country areas on a low volume plan that works out cheap for occasional use

I've broke em all.running the Telstra Dave at the moment had some rough nocks and drops and Havant broke.it yet.the toughest on the market I could find

Telstra say the "Dave" is the only rugged smart phone they offer at this time

The Telstra Tough is "no longer offered" and a mate said his one will be given to the proctologist who does Telstra management and worn as a wrist watch during work hours.

note when looking at import phones that telstra NEX-G is 850 Mhz

Due to frustrating days in the shed, zero finds out on the coils, nothing in the sluic box of the banker, only black sands in the base of the puddling tub, I believe there is no such thing, dry spell or the phones fault, the so called Telstra tough phone wins it hands down.
Stupid bloody phone, "message not sent" "6455 new updates" "cannot login at this time" "invalid or incorrect password" "you have 32 new voice messages, you have 32 saved messages" "emergency calls only"
Turn the bloody things off so they don't interfere with my 5000
Stupid bloody phones 8.(

"0h the screens cracked,WTF"
So into Telstra we go again,
dwt "hi the screen on my phone just broke"
hot Telstra chick "oh, can I see it please" pauses "yes, it's definetly broken isn't it"
dwt's mind "my god your hot"
hot Telstra chick "we'll have to get you a new phone as this model is outdated now"
dwt's mind "damn girl" :p
dwt " uh, ok then"
hot Telstra chick " this is the newest model, it barely works on a good day, reception is next to nill, unless your standing under one of our limited towers, you probably won't be able to watch you/red tube on it, and it's only $359.99 or $35,99 per month, I need your phone number to programme your phone, and I'm sorry but none of your contact's have saved to SIM, shall I wrap that for you?"
dwt's mind "I think she just asked for my phone number, act cool big guy" :8 leans on counter.
dwt "uh,.............ok!" :D
Stupid bloody phones!!!!!

Another vote for RugGear.
Am researching atm and that is my choice - http://ruggear.com.au/about-ruggear/

What I intend to do is buy outright, take it to a local who will strip the phone of all apps [ yes, google, maps, camera, everything] except
the phone ability, text and address book.
will get telstra pre paid.

Last one I did that to no need to charge very often, used to top it up every week or so.
No updates, prompts, stupid apps you don't need or want. Just a phone.

Made me giggle thinking about the photo of that guy fishing on the ruggear website.
Do they float or sink straight to the bottom lol?
