Hi all,

I have been panning a bit and found small amounts of very fine gold, I am building a sluice box and was thinking of running rubber Vmat with 32mm x 12mm expanded metal on top. I am just wondering if anyone runs this combo and how effective it is for catching gold ?

I love using the rubber "V" mat, but if you can find it ( I couldn't at the shops or about ) try out "U" mat instead.
I've used the V mat on my river sluice, highbanker and cleanup sluice, I find it to be very effective. I do not know if it would work with expanded mesh above, as it may create a double vortex, but give it a try, I think it would be fine.

I use it on a harsh style clean up sluice, sampling basicly, ive found it needs plenty of water over the top and a slightly less of a fall than standard sluicing or banking (screening through sieves first), like i said harsh style of washing, it tends to build up in the xpanded mesh on top of the v-rubber with fine sands ect, but as im only pumping through fines from sample holes (5kg buckets) im really only looking for any colour to suggest that that area requires further investigation, if a bucket shows signs of colour it goes to the side till i fit in the miners moss inbetween the two and process it to catch all the gold i can. :)
