Hi all

Found some rocks on my property and was wondering if they are associated with gold. Your thoughts appreciated.

There is also a dry creek bed (at the moment) a couple of km away with what looks like a lot of quartz in places. Gold had been found nearby back in the gold rush days, about 20km away. Will run the detector over the creek bed area to see whats up.

They definitely are a good indicator of possible gold, but not a given that there is gold there.

My place is very similar, with thousands of river stones everywhere too... but no gold :(

Definitely keep testing! :)

Looks worth a look!

Good way to try, its a bit time consuming, is to do some test panning.
Need to dig some samples along the creek in several different locations.
Dig as deep as you can, to bed rock if possible and put some sample dirt in a bucket or bag, mark it #1, and note the location, then keep doing that along the area. #2-#3 etc etc.
Then pan each sample.
If you get color in sample #7-8and 9 but nothing before or after, you can then check the area before and after those samples until it stops.
Where it stops, check the higher ground to the left and right of the creek.
You can continue digging and panning, or just use your detector, but if you dig, you might need machinery, or gold might be too deep for your detector.
Its just one way to do it that worked for old timers.

Look on a geological map. Does your property line up with reef lines, known to have contained gold. They usually run North South.

Thanks guys.

There is a small reef about 20km away which held a small amount of gold back in the gold rush days so i thought that maybe the creek that runs past comes from that area might have some gold in it possibly washed down stream.
