River bed how deep

Hi I have a creek on my property which runs every year in winter some times more than others , I'm on a gold area but not sure how deep to go in the creak. I see lots of people on you tube getting off the top but my creek hasn't a really hard base and you can easily dig it

Dig until you find hard ground and sample if it isn't there dig through to the next hard layer, some are a false bed. Alternatively if you can find the hard ground that dips into the creek and follow it.

If you can find a natural barrier across your creek, ie: rock formation, the sand will have banked on the upside so you will have some digging to do to get down to the bedrock. When the creek is dry dig the loose topsoil away up against the rock formation then collect the last few inches down to the bedrock including a dust pan and brush to sweep up the fines.
Put this through a dry blower or sluice and you maybe very surprised.
