I have just gained access to reids creek in wooragee on some private property, i would like any advice on which way to go, either prospecting or sluicing. As i am new to all of this a have absolutely no experiance at all. Is this a good area or should i stick to the more well known areas. Any advice would be more than appreciated

Research area to see if gold was found in that area before. Trove website is good for that.
Look up the two methods called loaming and crevicing.
Go in with a gold pan first and do loaming to find your spot. Once found then sluice or highbanker.
Where there is bedrock crossing the creek do crevicing.
Best of luck with it. :D

How far up from the bridge over the chiltern- beechworth road are you going to be? Id start with a pan and clean out the cracks in the granite.
There used to be a sign on one of the road cuttings on the wodonga- beechworth rd near worragee forbidding the removal of soil but i think they took it down as his only increased the incidence of trailer loads of dirt going missing as there was gold in that particular bank.
Keep an eye out for stones that wont wet when your panning as that creek feeds off glacial tillites and diamonds have been recovered in the past from that area. Go to the beechworth museum if you want to have a look at some of the local stones.

Iv'e done some research and it was pretty popular back in the gold rush days, i went out with a friend of mine for a bit of a look around and he had his detector and had a bit of a poke around, no nuggets but he did find a few old chinese coins, i was wondering if this was maybe an old campsite as there were a lot of chinese up this way in the gold rush. Anyway iv'e just ordered my highbanker and cant wait to get out there :)

The beechworth gold rush started at Wooragee. We had a property just down the Road at Leneva. I would start with a pan and sample. I'm not sure if you would get enough flow to run a sluice where you are talking about. My advice would be to buy a detector, it doesn't have to be a wiz bang detector. The coins, relics and possibly nuggets will reward you better in that area. My opinion only. There has been recorded Nuggets found at Wooragee.
I hope this will help a little.
Cheers Ryan

A good spot for gems but don't prospect along Reids Way. Its a restricted area.
Lots of snakes near the creek at the moment and they don't go away until autumn.
You will need a pump and sluice set up. Don't bother detecting for gold its way too fine but there are some relics scattered around.
The Wooragee area has few gravel bars like the Woolshed Valley, so you have to get in the creek and be prepared to get wet.
Good Luck
