In case anyone's looking for a good flick to watch, here's a few fairly recent ones I highly recommend.

  • Captain Phillips
The true story of Captain Richard Phillips and the 2009 hijacking by Somali pirates of the US-flagged MV Maersk Alabama.[/*]
  • American Hustle
A fictional film set in the alluring world of one of the most stunning scandals to rock our nation.[/*]
  • The Wolf of Wall Street
Based on the true story of Jordan Belfort, from his rise to a wealthy stock-broker living the high life to his fall involving crime, corruption and the federal government. Heaps of tits and ass in this one.[/*]

Feel free to chime in with any decent / recent movies you've seen lately.

Captain Phillips was a great movie, one of the best in 2013 imo.

Couple movies I liked:

  • Lone Survivor
Tells the story of four Navy SEALs on an ill-fated covert mission to neutralize a high-level Taliban operative. Based on a true story.[/*]

  • Prisoners
Keller Dover's (Hugh Jackman) daughter and her friend are kidnapped in a small town. The movie shows how far a father would go to get his daughter back.[/*]

Pain and gain
With the rock and mark Wahlberg
Both bigger then ever based on a true story as well about 2 gym freaks who rob 1 of their clients

The wolf of wall Street is good, especially if you want to see the only movie I've seen that surpasses the amount of swearing that billy bob said in bad Santa lol

Fixing the shadow.....

Fixing the shadow (Aka Beyond the Law) is a 1992 TV film written and directed by Larry Ferguson. It tells the story of Dan Saxon, an undercover cop who infiltrates a biker gang to arrest the men behind a drug-smuggling/arms-dealing operation. In order to maintain the trust of the gang's leader, he must commit ever more dangerous and heinous crimes and must question how far he can go beyond the law.
(Based on a true story)

Charlie Sheen Daniel "Dan" Saxon (aka Sid)
Linda Fiorentino Renee Jason
Michael Madsen "Blood"
Courtney B. Vance Conroy Price
Leon Rippy Virgil (aka Dildo)
Rip Torn Deputy Prescott
Dennis Burkley Oatmeal
Michael Waltman Jailer

Re Captain Philips ..... Foxten Discovery or one of those have been showing the documentary with real footage, the movie is almost spot on in many aspects.
Good film, great story.
Cheers.

Oh, the women in "August, Orange County" leave Billy Bob for dead when it comes to swearing, chicks movie but I doubt your granny wouldenjoy it.

Fixing the Shadow is one of my favourite movies, probably one of the best movies that Charlie Sheen has done imo. Virgil's character was funny, especially the car chase scene... Shame there's no Bluray release for it. The soundtrack is awesome!

Here's some others I have liked recently:

  • RoboCop
I don't like many remakes but I enjoyed this RoboCop remake a lot, probably because it was not continuing where the original RoboCop left off...[/*]

  • Non-Stop
An air marshal (Liam Neeson) is framed for the takeover of the airliner he is on after receiving a series of text messages that put his fellow passengers at risk unless the airline transfers $150 million into an off-shore account in his name. Watched it last night and enjoyed it.[/*]

  • We Own the Night
American crime drama with Joaquin Phoenix, Mark Wahlberg and Robert Duvall. A New York nightclub manager tries to save his brother and father from Russian mafia hit men. Bit of an older movie but still very good nevertheless.[/*]

The Tom cruise ones alright, ending is a bit dodgy, but made up for seeing him shot repeatedly. Best one for a long time.

It is probably my favorite movie by far.

+1 for Prisoners, it's a great movie.

I haven't seen the Lone Survivor but have been meaning to for a little while now.

Recent movies to check out if you want to waste $$.

Enders Game - this movie should be taken out at dawn and shot in the back of the head.

Godzilla - After having been used to dig the grave for Enders Game, this movie should be tortured and then left on an ant hill covered in honey. What a disgrace to ruin a classic genre of movies.

Invasion Day - great movie for conspiracy theorists. After having helped dig the grave for Enders Game and being used to pour honey on Godzilla, this movie should be subjected to sitting down and watching 24 hours of The House of Representatives on Fox News then handed a Glock 9mm pistol and told 'you know the right thing to do'.

Edge of Tomorrow (with Tom Cruise) - after having helped dig the grave for Enders Game, poured honey on the Godzilla movie, cleaned up the mess that Invasion Day day after it 'did the right thing', this movie should be buried up to its neck at low tide at St Kilda beach. The polluted water would probably kill it before it drowned.

Now, you don't get these type of reviews on the ABC or SBS which is a pity as at least they are an honest reflection of the tripe being served up at the moment. NOW - if they manage to ruin the next Mad Max movie, watch out, a further tirade will be forthcoming.

Anyone else been up all night with sick kids/grandkids and feeling a little bit testy?

Am looking forward to new Transformers movie ( opened last night) have enjoyed the others, first one my favourite
