I'm not long back from Victoria. Stayed at the Inglewood CP and had friends from Canberra and elsewhere come for a day or two or a week or so.

I've got a few relics and the gold I found in various cleaning solutions but did take a couple of pre-cleaning photos. I'll post "post cleaning" photos later.

Among the relics I got a couple of "new to me" buttons including a press stud marked "Sterling" with the English pound sign on it. I also found a stud ram's ear tag and a couple of unusual shapes which end up being lead.

I did well for me overall. The pic below shows 32.2g but my other scales showed 32.9g. Oh well. They will shrink in weight as they soak in the Alibright. Largest nugget was 16.5g and the smallest ones were 0.1g, Detected at Wedderburn, Inglewood, Kingower, Laanecoorie and Moliagul and found gold in all except Laanecoorie. Only one of my visitors found gold - a single bit but 13.5g.

Next big trip is out to Central Australia in May. I have pastoral and EL holder permissions. Really looking forward to trying to find my first NT gold.

Great finds there mate! Id be stoked. Was your finds in State Forrest or private property? Also what detector were you using?

Thanks for the comments.

3DDevil - I use a 5000. 10 of my 11 finds were from State Forests. A 1.3g came from private land. My mate's 13.5g came from private land.

Nice selection of finds there mungas, especially the nuggets, they look and are so ancient. Hope the yellow stuff is not to far from where your swinging on the next trip.well done to all.

Nice haul there Detectist. Well done.
How long were you there?
Pauline and Jerry at the Inglewood CP are real nice. I get up there a bit myself.
If you don't mind me asking, did you find the gold in diggings or away from the diggings? Still tossing up myself where to focus my efforts. There is just so much ground out there.
Cheers Dig'n-it.

Thanks again for your comments.

Dig'n-it - most of the finds were within sight of diggings. Almost all were on slopes. Your question is what I think pretty well all detectorists face at some stage. Some specialise on the mullock heaps and pick up gold, some go wandering through the bush, based or not on research, looking for the bigger bits. Time on the ground swinging properly is quite important. Good luck.
I stayed at the CP for 2 1/2 weeks.

Mungass - good to hear from you. I think I've learnt enough to know that I have not learnt enough!
I've always found gold in Inglewood but pretty hard going sometimes with many days between bits and so used it as a base for surrounding gold fields as well.

Yes, I agree it is a question we all face. I know some who stick to the diggings, particularly those with SDC's, and they find a lot of small gold. I myself with a 4500 like the slopes, though agree it can be days between finds. I do a lot of research but to date its not helped a lot, though I'm still relatively new, and finding my way. There is just so much ground out there. Apart from long weekends or holidays I only get out for day trips every couple of weeks. I'm 2.5 hours from the Vic GT so spend half the day travelling. But love it nonetheless. Thanks for sharing your experiences, especially with such good finds. Keeps us all inspired. Cheers Dignit
