Found this yesterday it looks like a button but it's only 8mm across. It has an intriguing pattern engraved in the face with what looks like stars forming a circle around the edge. On the back it has a loop just like a button would have. I think it's made of copper. If it was 20 or 30mm it would clearly be a button but it's only the size of a press stud so it's got me wondering if anyone has any more clues.

Still a mystery from here mark ,.... is it S for Sailor, or some sort of money symbol ? :)
 
Might be off some children's clothing or doll given the size, or purely decorative vs functional, got any pics of the rear end? :)
 
They must have had some fine decorative tunics back in the 1800s.

I found this small silver button out the back of Hill End.

it may just be a really small button wally's looks to be only slightly larger. here's a pic of the back.
