So, I have my new detector and have been itching to give it a test run, but it's been raining on and off for weeks now, making the clay turn into slosh. It's rained so much in fact, this month we've broken the local record and had around 4 inches of rain (which is a lot here!).. So seeing as I couldn't go digging this weekend, I decided to go video one of the creeks while it was running so I can watch the video later and see where the fast/slow water flow is in the creek. Seeing as it only flows when it rains, I thought this was a decent idea, so hopefully it helps me spot where the yellow stuff might be settling for when the creek finally dries up later in the year... While on this I might as well ask a question. Has anybody had any luck with creeks which have a dark coloured slate rock bottom? There's plenty of it in this creek! A lot of sections look like a giant sluice box.
How's everyone else going with their fossicking? Is the rain much of a bother for any of you or is your area a little easier on the mud side of things? How much rain have you had in your area and is that amount unusual? Here the record was 70mm for June, with a yearly average under around 275mm. At least the farmers will be happy!
