Wow, nice document. If you've ever purchased bonds I guess this is the US equivalent from 1917. I purchased ANZ bonds once back in the early eighties and cashed them in again some time later for a reasonable profit.

I used to have some very nice share certificates like this as well. They were Bond Corp shares so ended up worthless but I wish I still had them just as a collectors item. They don't print these fancy pieces of paper anymore since we went electronic with share trading.
 
I got a new york one also. Looks loke my $50 i spent for a box of old coins has paid it self back muchly
 
The railways were so wealthy, and held land all along their routes. Even when I was doing gold exploration in Nevada in the 1980s, and had to get property owner permission to enter land, I used to find that the title was often still held by some ancient railroad company.
