Last week, myself and my two boys spent the week on the hunt for our first piece of gold found as a family. I've found twelve pieces without them and we were determined to unearth a piece together.

We headed bush Friday night, arriving at camp around 9pm. It was also an area we had never been to. With the camper set up and dinner taken care of, we were off to bed. Its always a bit of a surprise rocking up to camp at night. You never know what the place will look like in the morning.
Over the course on the week we did several night walks looking for anything that moved. We fished though nothing was caught, The boys spent countless hours honing their skills on their pushies. They can both jump their bikes and are now masters of the skid :)

All in all it was an awesome week away camping. We met some great families camping, the boys made a few new mates and I loved seeing my boys doing their thing

We had a weeks worth of these :)

Yep, you are all spot-on.
There is nothing like getting out of the city and getting back to nature. The older I get the more I need to escape the rat race. Its more like an addiction these days :) and for my two sons, its instilling a love for nature and the great outdoors. Which in this day and age is more important than ever. We spend a lot of time in the bush. Ya really cant beat it :)
The best part for me though is watching my sons who are budding photographers/ zoologists/ geologists/ astrologists and prospectors having fun learning about our world. To say I am a proud father, would be a gross understatement.

Then we throw a little gold in the mix and I am one happy man :D

Thanks for the comments guys :)

Cheers, NG.

Great report NeoGeo. And it is great that your kids love it as much as you do.
Looks like you had a fantastic time.
Not as much prospecting as I'd have liked ;) My boys are 5 and 7, so I cant expect too much. I think they had more fun back at camp hanging out with the other kids riding their bikes. Though they did find heaps of great Pyrite specimens around camp :) so they were constantly on the lookout for "good ground" :D

Too right brother.
Lots of photos and videos get taken on our adventures to aid the memory bank in years to come :)

Try and keep them into it. My young bloke is now 15 and while I can't really complain as he's very polite/ helpful but when we go detecting just hard to motivate. ( quote from him last trip after he found his first piece) I don't really like it but its addictive! Well he's worked out his old man pretty quick.

 That's a crack up :D I gotta agree with him there. It is addictive. I've also been chronically addicted to fishing since I was a boy and later on dirt bikes. So its all good :D I reckon my boys know what makes their old man tick these days:) I don't mind so much if prospecting doesn't become their thing. Because I know the call of the bush has them both pretty good.
I've been camping with them since before they both could walk, so its in their blood, so to speak. We have already started talking about our next adventure during the Christmas Holidays. 9-10 days camping is never enough for any of us up in East Gippsland and they both would all ways like to stay a few more days :) We'll be heading to Lake Eildon in a couple weeks for some fishing/quad riding and once it heats up they will be getting towed around the lake on biscuits.
They get it pretty good and are very accommodating when it comes to a Dad focused camping trip. But this trip prospecting they were both trying to swing dads 4500 and they both carry their own picks around, havin a scratch here and there. So ya never know ;)

It sounds like you have instilled all the right things in your boy Bjay. Keep up the good work mate.
Congratulations on his first piece too :D

Cheers, NG :D
