Hi everyone im new to this site, I've been prospecting for the last couple of yrs. Found a bit of colour at Lefroy. Been doing the hard yakka way by crushing rocks. I'm looking for the quartz vain in rocks and so far I've been lucky. Small amounts. Wanting to know if there is any good panning areas close by

You can google search the Minerals Resources Tasmania library by typing into google (without the quotation marks): "site:mrt.tas.gov.au alluvial gold".

MRT also have published the booklet "Alluvial Gold in Tasmania", which would be a good start. In the northeast, I'd say Lisle is the best bet, a lot of it is under tenement, but I know a lot of people who pan there anyway and never get hassled. Cradle Creek, Tobacco Creek, Panama Creek, Lone Star Creek, the Den goldfield, Beaconsfield, Back Creek, and even the South Esk river carry some gold.

But as Redmanti says, Lisle is easy and accessible.

Hi all, I am also new to this site and I have been trying to pan around Lisle and I have got a couple of buckets of sands from a few sites up and down the creek. I panned it out to a couple of table spoons of black sand. It has a fair few shiny specs through it but very very fine. So I was wonder if any one has some pictures of any gold they have recovered from the area.

Thanks mate I will have to see how far up stream I can go to get some samples. Cheers
