Yeh really sad, seen players hit by bouncers since I was a kid in the Dennis Lillie days, but never seen one this serious.

Induced coma, had emergency surgery, listed as critical.

Prayers and thoughts go out to him and lets hope he is ok.

Very serious accident and was horrible to see,
Absolute gun batter, fingers crossed and speedy recovery.

Thoughts and prayers go out to Hughes and his family.

Phil Hughes, I wish this great batsman a speedy recovery, thinking of him, his family and all his cricket mates.

Terrible accident, i felt sick when i watched the footage.
Must feel for Sean Abbott, the bowler who bounced him. I used to play top level cricket as a bowler and remember hitting a batsman with a rocketing bouncer in the head.
The batsman left the field to and went to hospital to get stitches, it put me off my game for weeks.
But that's nothing compared to today's tragic events.
I just hope Phil Hughes makes a full recovery, but sadly its not looking great at the moment :(

Yep, very sad event and everyone has their fingers crossed for a full recovery. I used to play cricket at Moore park, and had one rise off a length and hit me on the head. In those days I used to bat without a helmet, even though I was opening, because the artificial grass was pretty predictable, but not on that occasion. Thankfully nothing like the damage that Phil suffered, but I collapsed without putting my hands out to break the fall, having blacked out for a few seconds, and was pretty woozy for a while. Should have gone to hospital to be checked, but did not. For the rest of the season I was stuffed if the ball was on a similar line or length, which is how I got the nickname Dr Duck.

Luckily I came good the season after that, but always wore a helmet, a couple of which had to be retired due to being cracked by bouncers. Phil was desperately unlucky to be struck on the neck just under the helmet. I have not seen the footage, but believe he tried to pull or hook the ball, missed, and collected it ball. It can be a dangerous sport, and I have seen plenty of blokes hit while batting or fielding close in, but nothing like what happened to Phil.

Your right Doc, hit at the base of the skull apparently, just under the ear attempting a straight arm hook/pull over square leg/fine leg is how it looked to me.

Played A grade 'club' cricket for years as a wicket-keeper and fairly ordinary batsman.
Saw a lot go on from behind the stumps, I used to sledge the batsman all day especially when a couple on a short line and length went whistling passed their ears which had them ducking and weaving, telling them "the next one is gonna make you piss and call mum".

Its all part of the game as you know but we never wish serious injury upon anyone.

Phil is a fighter, all great batsman are, he will pull through and come back bigger, better and stronger than ever I feel sure.

Regards

And i thought i was having another bad day out in the goldfields with out finding any gold again !
sure puts things into prospective

RIP Phillip Hughes

from a mad keen cricket lover

RIP Phil.
He came from a small town north of me.
One of my faves and an incredible talent.

What a shame...thoughts go out to his family

Last time I felt this devastated was when we lost Steve Irwin....and now a legend in the making, and one of our best out there on the paddock. RIP Phil and sure is a sad day for Australian cricket. 8.(

Feel the same Wal...I had a few things planned an attending when the Missus come out and told me the news.
Hard to get motivated after it. Really sad inside, and I only know him from watching him play.

Yeh, was out in garage working the dolly pot when the lovely lady came outside and told me the bad news!

Operations suspended for the day.

RIP Phil, you will be sorely missed by all who loved you, and the fans!
