I went for dinner yesterday at a local regional pub here in SA located at the little historic town of Macclesfield. I had been to this particular pub previously, but has never taken notice of the bar (was in separate dining room), but when I did approach the bar, I almost had a heart attack. The entire bar in inset with pennies ranging from early 1800's through to the 1960's, all collected from an old wishing well located at the back of the dining room. Talking to the owner, they collected these coins from the 4m deep well in the 80's, indicating that further down the well still contains many other coins, imcluding silvers and sovereigns. They haven't been down since due to OH&S regs (confined spaces, carbon dioxide etc).

I'd give my right leg to find this many coins, or to locate an old wishing well - mmmm! Next visit may include a screwdriver! :D

Hey I will go you 50/50 in a vac truck :) . I'm fairly sure a 4metre draft would be no problems.

must admit I have been there for a meal with some mates but never noticed the penny's either.

May go there again in a couple of weeks when I get home.

Great looking pub & with a interesting history, its even got Little Creatures 'Pale ale' on tap.
