winchester 44. around 1880s
and there was a short but the short broke up in my hand.

I remember the stove my mother had, you know when the milko delivered to the door, the iceman left a block of ice in the front fence-steaming away in the daylght.
She got it in approx. 1950 and was using it when we left in 1964. I'm pretty sure it was a Everhot brand. Cost nothing to run as my dad was a carpenter/joiner and we got all of our heating wood and cooking wood for nothing.
I do know in made nice cakes.

Cheers :)

Nice post Cheese you're right in amongst it by the look of those nice pickies.
You need to work out in a big spiral from that oven door to see what else is still lying around.

Soon I will post a picture, but 1 more time in the bath will get all the rust.
I would like to know the age of the cast iron Carron Dover stove door as I am unable find it on the net,
Could it be as early as 1860?

Here's a Trove link to newspaper clipping, showing them up for sale in 1900. From what I can see, the earlier models were imported from the UK, with later ovens made by J.Furphy & Sons in Shepparton. I think Carron is the actual model name, as there were many other models of the dover stove. These stoves were also imported into South Africa earlier on, before being made locally from 1932 onwards.

But I have to laugh as the old farmer has still got a laugh.
as he gave me a spot near an old well that had been used for trading years ago,
he buried by the look of it a lot of sheet tin bulldozed deep.lol.
