I was wondering if somebody could pinpoint Campbell's river Causeway,Sewells Ck Causeway and Native Dog Creek fossicking areas on a map for me? I am having trouble locating these places.8 weeks leave coming up so would like to check them out.

I can help with Native Dog Fossicking Area. It is located at the end of Apanie rd - Essington.
From Oberon head towards Black Springs, turn right onto Sewells Ck rd, follow this until Folleys Ck Rd turn left and follow this to Beaconsfield Rd. Turn right follow for about 1km to Chain of Ponds Rd, follow this down the hill cross Native Dog Ck and follow up the hill and over, turn left up Apanie Rd you will come across a house on your right drive past the house to a closed gate. Go through this gate and close behind you. Follow the track down the hill and head down to the left (Towards the trees) head through another gate (Close behind you) and you are in the Fossicking area.
Last time I was there (12 months ago) the Fossicking Area roads were washed out in places, a 4WD was required to get over the ruts. Please take all rubbish with you, fill in holes, stay within the Fossicking Area and introduce yourself to the property owner that live/work around this Fossicking area if you bump into them.

NOTE:

1080 Fox baits had been laid down with signage on fences last time I was there. Please leave your dogs at home.
If someone has been there recently they may be able to help with road conditions/access down in the Fossicking Area.

I hope this helps.

Thanks guys. Are these areas clearly signposted? Just don't want to end up fossicking somewhere I shouldn't be.

Pretty sure most if not all of the designated/public fossicking areas are well signposted. In the state forests outside of these areas you'll need a state forest fossicking permit which is worthwhile having in my opinion anyway.

If unsure about private property boundaries I would err on the side of caution & stick to signposted or the known forest area boundaries. You can get print outs of the forests on the above website.

Awesome mbasko, that's what I was after. Thanks for all your help everyone.

Hey fellow prospectors.
Im attaching screenshots of spot where i been gold panning 2days ago.
I just recently visited 2 spots around Oberon.
One was more about gems -Porters retreat -sapphires and zircons
second -Native Dog creek - spot for gold panning and some gems as well.
I personally liked more native dog creek where I spend great afternoon. When you compare mine pics with google maps you will get there pretty easy. On spot was nice bend of creek surrounded by opposite hill. There was lots of diggings and few old fire spots from camping. In water there was many leeches-Take rubber boots and gloves with you . I found few little pieces of gold.

How to get to Native dog creek from Oberon:
When you look to google maps north pointing up then creek is on left hand side. Get to Abercrombie road from oberon. After 5km there is crossroad of Abercrombie road and Sewels creek rd. Get to sewels and drive all way to crossroad of Beaconsfield rd.
There continue again on Sewels creek rd. Which turned to unpaved rd. Watch for sign of Native dog creek. In bend of road there is entrance to spot. Check pics attached.
Good luck and may gold be in every pan you do!

You've also got the Blue Hills Quarry (fossicking permit required) on Shooter's Hill Road, probably 15-20 minutes out of Oberon. Find long quartz veins and within the vughs you'll find smokey quartz specimens on a muscovite matrix. High grade quartz for faceting if interested or otherwise great specimens. You'll need to bring sledges/crowbars/screwdrivers to break open the vughs.

When you reach the left hand turn into the forest, go up the hill til you reach a 4-way intersection, theres a bunch of rubbish like an old washing machine or something on the left (as of 18/1/19). At this intersection you turn right and go 100m, and you get to a 3-way T-intersection with a potentially left hand 90degree turn. There's a bunch of big boulders on this round, you drive through the boulders and up the hill into the quarry,

I visit the Black Springs area frequently, and Sapphire Bend within the Vulcan State Forest off Abercrombie Road is very easily identifiable. Lots of small sapphires averaging around 1-5carats. The biggest that has come out of the area is 30 carats. Its very important you're not in the clay and in the correct gravel layer which can be difficult at times to find. Lots of advice on the area on this forum.
