Update: To my disbelief, there was NO gold contained within this quartz specimen https://www.prospectingaustralia.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=63701#p63701 :(

While having a dig in the Peel at Nundle yesterday I noticed a piece of quartz just off to the side of where I was digging, as always I picked it up looking for any visible gold (which there was none) and was about to toss it when I thought to myself "I'll just give it a quick wash just in case there's something in that little crevice", lo and behold after wetting the quartz it caught the sun and lit up like a Christmas tree :D

Honestly the above photo's don't do it justice at all, it's overcast here at the moment so it's not quite blinging at its best :D

I'm hearing you headbut, the wife wants to see it in the sun before I crush it so it mightn't be until tomorrow before I can 8.(

That's a beauty specimen sample, I've never fossicked for gold so the fact the gold is embedded beneath a layer of quarts looks very neat(to me). Great find & no doubt there will be plenty of rock washing going on after this post! :D

Just ask ChrisM and Dozer :) latest sampling prototype Chris's Crusher v0.1 i'm providing the gold trailer :D

Nice find nugget, fingers crossed it is gold. If it is, it might be worth keeping whole?
Maybe do a specific gravity test in water?

That's awesome Nugget nice find!

Did you weigh it yet, might be worth trying to think of a way to get it out in tact rather than crushing it?

Thanks guys

I don't own digital scales so haven't weighed it yet. I'm not real keen on messing around with acids so crushing is probably my only option. I'll most likely only smelter it down anyway.

Just goes to show, don't throw anything away until you are certain. It reminds me I still have a few rocks from the last trip that need some crushing, however I am not holding my breath that I will be that lucky.

Very nice find indeed. Can't wait to see what actually comes out of it, by the looks good be a nice amount in there yah :) I suppose you may be heading back that way soon in and around that area. Also did you wave a detector over it and see if it picked it up, or a pin pointer ?

If I had to guess, I'd say between 3-5 grams.

I've very recently sold my pin-pointer and detector in pursuit of doing more Alluvial Prospecting, so unfortunately can't run it past a coil. I'm pretty confident it would have picked up on the AT Gold no worries.

I'm definitely keen to return ;)
