Hi All,

My missus and I want to do some prospecting together. The idea is that we spend time together away from the phones, get some exercise in the outdoors, and hopefully find a little bit of gold too.

First of all, I want to say Hi to everyone, and secondly to ask if there is there a beginners thread which explains the ins and outs of prospecting. I have a million questions...

Thanks, I've been using the search tools and found quite alot so far!

One thing I haven't found yet, are if there is any sort of unwritten rules or etiquette regarding fossicking. I know to leave the area as I found it, fill in holes etc.

But can people reserve spots on public areas?
Is theft of equipment a common occurrence?
Is it legal to refine and cast your own gold?
