Prospectors in FNQ are close to losing some well known areas due to actions of some . What I have seen both in attitude and actions of many I'm not at all surprised as I wouldn't have the oxygen thieves on my property.
Time to pick the game up guys and if you see others doing the wrong thing, then kick some ass before its to late.
A property owner is under no obligation to allow you on his land, it's a privelige he gives you? Abuse it you'll lose it.
Sadly some has already gone :N:

After having to delete a couple of these threads lately I'm going to warn members to please not turn this thread into a name and shame thread, that is not what this forum is for. So please be careful where this thread goes.

Cheers

I am guessing a major contributor to this big problem is the Huge explosion in popularity of all things prospecting. Gold shows on pay TV, U Tube channels etc.
Promoters seem to make out that Prospecting is easy and a road to instant wealth? Many newbies find the laws difficult to understand and confusing?

Harsh reality soon sets in and before long many are tempted to break the rules, play ignorance to restrictions and methods etc.
For certain this will result in the death as prospecting as we know it.

A mate has a small bush block in a Victorian Gold town within GT, a gold bearing creek runs by at the back.
He is informed by the locals it is frequented by trespassing prospectors, detecting without permission despite it been signed as private property
and in plain view of nearby houses. when confronted they usually become defensive and abusive? When my mate goes up he has to spend a fair deal
of time filling in unfilled holes, fixing fences and removing discarded trash? :( :N:

The Government & Public, s view of Prospectors and Prospecting is set by the lowest level of compliance to Rules, Regulations etc.
Those doing the wrong thing need to be educated on how to go about your hobby with a Long term sustainability method.

Prospecting is not a get rich quick scheme.

Never been up that way bogger,is there a lack of state forest or crown land amongst the goldfields?
Wind the clock back 20-30yrs,most property owners when approached for access for shooting, fishing or prospecting youd never have a problem, now its like winning the lotto if your allowed access,my old stomping grounds on nsw sth coast is a struggle to gain access most places now,one group that caused a lot of problems is the piggers, not all of them but quite a few had no respect for the property owners,a lot of them just shut shop, cant blame them fences etc cut everywhere.....

Just an idea - get a bunch of your prospecting mates together and speak to the land owner/s apologising for the selfish actions of others, then getting your utes full of red dirt back filling as you go.

I am sure the land owners would appreciate your actions no end,but would "all be forgiven" bringing things back to new who knows.

I am not foolishly expecting that all the holes would be filled in being a huge area I am sure, but it would show that you detectorists are aware and more than happy to follow any rules .e.g filling in your holes as you good.

A crazy idea maybe 8)

Good luck :Y:

Unfortunately Goldchaser the problem is not a lack of state forest and crown land in Qld. There's millions of hectares of it that are in or near known goldfields. The problem is that it is nearly all out of bounds. We don't have the enlightened fossicking laws of WA, Victoria, NSW and even Tassie. Here we pay the most expensive fossicking licence fees of all states ($68 per year for a couple) and get given only 2 locations of state owned land upon which we can prospect, Warwick in SE Qld and Clermont in Central Qld. All other crown land/state forest requires an exploration lease or greater to access. This comes at a cost of sevearl hundred dollars per 5 hectare site for about 3 months access. Some graziers have set up business allowing detecting upon their privately owned land for a daily fee (think $15 to $25 per day). I'm guessing from what Bogger has said at least one of those graziers has shut down access to his/her land due to inconsiderate prospecting.

Hi Bogger,

Can you name the particular property that is closing?

Cheers,
Troutman

Goldchaser Troutman has pretty well covered the situation.
Troutman I won't name as bookings will be honoured for the year and could create complications, but after that :N: Others also are talking of following :(
A locked gate usually means no entry ................. not to some morons .............. just lift the gate of it's hinges :N: People instructed NO FIRES ........... morons reply is I need to cook  They obviously haven't heard of gas 8.( Maybe they need a fire and then be handed the feed bill to feed the stock until the grass regrows along with $1500 or so for each head of stock that's lost ? Probably then they may realise the ramifications plus the cost to the man who's land it is your on ?
Basically land owners are getting fed up I guess with the attitude of many that for $15 a day they own the place and can do as they wish. :N:
Not sure what Heatho is referring to and I have no hidden agenda ? In fact suits me as less competition :) But that's not how the world goes round, well not my world anyways 8.(
This is just a friendly heads up of what's in the pipeline and that guys and girls get your act together or your going to lose more and more. I quickly add here I don't class all in this category and in fact would like to think non of the members of this forum ? But would indeed be in the interest of all, that if you see some one doing the wrong thing ............. set them straight.
Hope to see you out there .................... but not tomorrow as it's mustering day and that's gold in itself :D :Y:

Scrounger its a shame the problem is not as minor as not back filling ................. goes way beyond that, in as much as the offenders are in fact effecting how the land owner puts the food on his table. Hence why the enough is enough now coming into play.

Thanks troutman and bogger,i never had any idea the qld rules and regs were so ridiculous and stifling,so in essence anyone detecting outside these designated areas on crown land without a EL is breaking the law,Im dumbfounded......

That's why we Qlders dream of the big trip west to the land of the free and home of the yellow!

Just a few simple examples that I have encountered myself, or be told of on a couple of properties where I have access in FNQ, are -
- Leaving gates open between paddocks holding stock previously segregated during a muster
- Shooting
- Cutting fences to gain access
- Leaving garbage that is dangerous to the stock
- Damaging water supplies, pipelines and the like
- Interfering or impeding a muster that is in progress
- Threatening the people on the property when taken to task over issues
- When given a break and allowed to go in one area, they just go wherever they want and that can really upset the applecart

These people are just selfish grubs, who don't care about anyone except themselves.
