Nothing too exciting from last night at a well picked local park, really struggling to find stuff at this location, but always good to test yourself on any vague targets. Unusal items were a tissot swiss made rockwatch (part of), and an eagle medallion/key tag from Shiraz in Iran. Was lucky not to slash myself on a broken buried coke bottle, considering I nearly always forget to wear my gloves. :|

Don't you just hate those glass bits sticking out of soft drink bottle lids, so many times that I could have sliced up a finger(but haven't yet).
Is that a short fat bullet in under the dangerous glass,..or am I just seeing things(on the wagon at the moment(hospital health scare), just decided to give it a rest at the moment for some particular reason(ha),....Thus the seeing things(DT's perhaps).

That round thing is just a capacitor, this spot has all sorts of junk and very little in the way of pre-decs. Only ever found a shilling and hp here, andcclose to the footpath vs in the park itself.

I went to go park hunting last night, but ended up at the beach for some reason, and geez was it blowing a gale. Turns out this particular beach was well and truly sanded in, with only a couple of deep spoon targets lying around, and a few other junk targets. I headed further down the beach to some exposed rocks for a bit of a look - nothing, then headed back to the car along the bottom of a cliff face, not really paying much attention. Got a good hit, dug it up - a 1927 half penny, moved a bit further, picked up a 1960 ramshead shilling - strange??

Looking back, I am thinking that these coins may have originated from the grassed areas at the top of the cliff, and have since fallen down the face as erosion took its toll. Not exactly where I expected pre-decs, but worth going back for another look.

It does happen like that,..at least they're in your kitty now GP,..rams head looks dropped pretty new S&V bath first I'd recon.

I had a bit more fun tonight raiding tot lots and a few park areas. Other than the coinage, I picked up a junker ring, a small locket, and a real heavy bling watch that was just sitting underneath a layer of bark. It is still happily ticking away, though not quite my style unfortunately. :p

Scored a bit of petrol money as well GP,...I'm still up, finished cleaning my coin and took the money shot,...going to post it up soon(shoulda been doing what you did though,..detecting ! ).

Yes, first metro pre-dec silver for me, and a long way from the water. Not that I usually go looking for them at the beach, as most of my detecting is for recent drops vs deeper older targets. Still eager to go back and check for more, something different for a change.

Robert, I think it is a mood ring, unfortunately it's just junk metal. :)

At last the rain has cleared, so off to one of my favourite parks for a bit of a detect. I am really struggling to find any copper pre-decs here, as it has been worked over a fair bit, but some silvers are still popping up from time to time. Tonight revealed a 1950 sixpence, 1943 threepence, a gold plate ring, silver signet ring, NT badge, and a couple of what I thought were coins, but turned out to be entry tokens possibly for a swimming pool. Still pulling out lots of sprinkler parts, lead and BB's, so enough to keep me on my toes. :)

Today I went out for a rare daytime detect with the missus, probably more of a drive than anything , but decided to stop off at an old oval to try our luck within a small attached park area. To say there were a few bottle caps at this location was an understatement, obviously the locals love their beer, but aren't too flash at picking up their rubbish. After picking up nothing more than a 1c & $2 coin, I moved over to a lesser used corner of the park, and was welcomed with a lovely 00:28 signal - an extremely nice condition 1931 Florin. After replacing the plug, I ran the detector back over the hole and was greeted with a 01:29 signal, re-excavated the plug, and a bit further off to the side was a 1927 Shilling, also in brilliant condition.

Didn't end up with much more, so happily headed off to the closest bakery to check out the coins. I reckon the missus thought finding silvers looked pretty easy, but that's not always the case. ;)

Nice finds!!! Would be a nice feeling to find some in that kind of condition. Well done

They look like they were dropped in near new condition, had to do a mad scramble to stop the missus from scraping the dirt off the coins in fear of scratching them. She was about to clean them up with a "wet one" towelette. :D

sweet !!!

i have a spot that is one of the oldest areas in town, which we did a drive around today in the rain, you now have me even keener to go and detect it

i really really want my first silver ;)

trouble is the spots i am finding , i will have to live to 103 to cover all the ground

Best to look in areas that would have confined people within a limited space, should hopefully have a greater density of finds, but on the flips side, also a greater density of junk to go with it.. :)

I take my hat off to you GP,..those two coins look absolutely brilliant and you've done a perfect clean up of them,...take them to a coin dealer and tell them they were left for you(not a lie) and ask what you should be looking for as a price if you were to put them on the market,...I bet they won't be able to tell that you've cleaned them and thus will give you a more realistic price,..especially if they know you don't want to sell to them there and then.
