Hello,

My name is Terry and im addicted to chasing gold. There I said it. Love camping and walking those dry river beds . own an sd 2000 and a cheap vlf detector.Since I was 6 years old spending two weeks at a time out in the bush prospecting for valuable minerals with my father I developed an understanding about the land. Its rugged , beautiful and dangerous sometimes but for the most part its amazing. Just looking at the folded formations and colours of the land was enough for me but the lure of a rich deposit of gold somewhere has got me keen. Prospecting is in my bones but only recently have i had a chance to spend time in the goldfields of Victoria and South Australia. I started out thinking it would be easy to find gold. Its not. I'm not giving up. I have found sunbaking specimens and detected flakes of gold on the surface but no real nuggets yet. I'm already planning trips to Halls creek , north of Alice and many other places I've recently found out about. I have a friend at work who has a 50 square kilometre lease in WA and im welcome to come and try my luck there. He promised me i wouldn't leave empty handed, cant wait. Spent a lot of time researching detectors and can say that im keen to own 2 gpx4500's and a good vlf for those quartz reefs ive been waking miles along looking for signs. keen to go out with others if possible.. I especially like doing short weekends away camping remote areas and fossicking/prospecting.

Welcome to the forum Terry.

You're absolutely right in saying that gold isn't easy to find, but once realised only then can you truly begin to appreciate and respect how hard it must have been for prospectors back in the day digging from sun up to sun down, Monday to Sunday chasing this mysterious yellow metal as their only source of income. And to think the youth of today think they have it tough

Don't give up mate, it's only a matter of time before those 4500's start paying dividends.

Cheers,
Nugget

Welcome aboard Terry. Having a fondness for camping and the bush is a great asset in becoming a successful prospector. If you spend enough time researching and putting it to good use with your bush skills you're on a winning recipe for success.

Hope the forum can go some way in helping with your research, and look forward to sharing your experiences within the threads.

All the very best of luck out there,

Cheers Wal.
