Newbie Prospector

Hi all,

My wife and I are heading to Kalgoorlie, Leonora enroute to Darwin via the great central road. We are leaving around 20 June 2018 so aim to reach Kalgoorlie & Leonora from 22 June 2018 onwards. We will be towing a small semi-off road caravan with a 4x4 ute.

I am very keen to do some prospecting along the way. I have bought an entry level detector, minelab GM1000, and looking to do 2-3 days prospecting around Kal and/or Leonora.

I have obtained my WA miners licence and would welcome any help I can get from experienced prospectors in getting a successful start.

Never done WA but wouldn't you need 40e permits as a minimum. Excuse my ignorance due to the fact I won't be there this year so I don't bother with the politics so to speak. I'll research when I do plan to visit in a few years.

I aim to stick to crown land with/without pending licences at this stage.

40e permits when I dedicate more time prospecting. At this stage, I only want to familiarise myself with the gear and protocols, and of course try and find some gold nuggets.

It is nearly all crown land out that way hey. Some lots are vacant, some leased for grazing etc. A bulk of it is free to detect on. Suss out the details before you go
The knowledge of where you are at exactly is important. Dont expect to see fences as any means of boundaries etc. There is a heap of info in here, just have a dig at before you go.

Hi JB13,

There are plenty of people in the caravan park in Laverton at this time of the year specifically to chase gold. Asking them maybe a good start.
