Gday all, have been visiting the forum now and then, Have found the a great deal of information on the site and I find myself looking more and more so I thought what the hell I'll join .
Am from Sydney, love the Aussie bush and all that goes with it, have had very little in the way of fossicking/prospecting experience but am looking to change that.
My introduction to fossicking/prospecting came about by pure chance, I was out camping one weekend to do a little fishing and I came across an old fellow doing some panning on the river, I stopped had a bit of a chat with him and he handed me a pan and said have a go so I did, to my surprise first pan load gave up a few flecks of gold and that was it, I'm hooked lol.
Since then I've hired a sluice a couple of times and a detector once, just to try out the different methods, found a bit more with the sluice, with the detector found the usual bottle tops, wire and shotgun shells. I did find a rock larger than my fist that kept setting the detector off and being some what of a bowerbird I had to take it with me, I think more for curiosity than anything else as to my untrained eyes was just a simple rock. I've since found that it is magnetic, wich has sparked more interest in fossicking/prospecting.
Lately i have been looking at gems so it won't be long before I'm bitten by the gem bug aswell.
Well that's about the limit of my experience, can't wait to learn more, hopefully find a lot more and be able to pass on what I've learnt to others. Happy fossicking to all.....
