Newbie in Brisbane

Hi all,
I'm new to the detecting world. Just wondering if anyone can point out some cool places to check out? I've hit up some beaches and some parks and just seem to be pulling up trash, trash and more trash. I have a Nokia fors core and a mine lab pin pointer. I really want to find a pre decimal or some nice jewelery.... Also I've heard people mention old abandoned race tracks and schools are good places to go. How do I find this information? I seem to have spent hours searching to no avail. Hoping someone can help point me in the right direction.

Trove is a great site for info on anything old and don't forget to use the search function on this forum for all sorts of info.

Keep researching, looking at maps, googling things, you will find what you are looking for. Researching is the hard bit, getting out for a swing and dig on the ground when you find a new or promising spot is the easy bit?
I am always researching and i am still finding out new info, new maps, new (old) area's to have a swing, etc
