Hi Guys

i have a newbie question here

i have been out multiple times detection around Enfield Linton Creswick Etc detecting with no luck at all a little confused about where is should detect
have mainly been around deep diggings and some small ones. should you detect near old diggings or away from them a little? shallow workings or deep workings?
if away from them them 50-100m 500m?
i see posts on other sites about people getting 15-20 small pieces per day in the same areas that i have been in i realize you need
to walk over it to find it but not sure i am looking in the right types of place have not came across others while im out i have used geovic
to find shallow workings also have doug stone maps for those areas.

thanks in advance for any pointers.

also i have read Loamers thread on here.

Well I'd say you're doing all the right stuff working all the areas you are and using the info you have.
Just go slow and keep looking. Gold is elusive but it is out still there.... somewhere.
Good luck and enjoy being out in the bush, you'll walk over some soon enough, just don't lose heart.

Keep going Steven. Yes you find a lot of rubbish but the gold is still there. Patience and time.
It's just getting harder and harder. Just remember to go slow and steady.
Check every target. Join your local PMAV club and go on outings to pick up extra knowledge.
Good luck :) :)

Thanks so just to clarify should I detect right near diggings or away from them? That's what confuses me the most I am thinking I spend to much time right at the diggings.

Your following in the footsteps of giants Stevie... well sorta.... they were big burly blokes with darn good tecta's n they cherry picked every step your gunna take (ain't I right everybody :Y: ).... so... you take a step to the left and two steps back before you start off again on a tangent Stevie.... then ya migjt just get somewhere mate.... cause your doin all the right things by the looks of it.... just the same as all them others before Ya.
;) ;)

Its a impossible answer , have all the previous people done near the diggings or away from the diggings.
If your getting small lead shot its not flogged and gold should come .
Detecting has a average ratio of 100 junk targets per 1 nugget . So keep digging maybe split your day and hit areas then swap.

Firstly, what detector are you using? I was out today and saw some guys using a gofind to try to find gold.
You need the right tool for the job.
Usually if you find lead you will eventually find gold. You just have to walk over it.

Remember loads of people have already tried to detect where you are detecting, but they may have missed it.

So go low and go very slow and take note of your area.

Good luck

I would try the 15 min rule..Hit a spot give it 15 min , no good find a new spot 15 min and just keep moving and looking..Can waist too much time on worthless ground..Drive around spot something that look interesting give it 15 min..Look for old shallow workings, something that doesnt look natural..an old detector hole..Its probably going to be very small stuff, missed, poke under trees ect places people are too lazy to push into..maybe a big bit hiding in there too..

You take one step to the left and two steps back?

make sure there is not cliff that you will fall off of or a dirty big hole you will fall into, hahaha :)

Feel you are doing all the right things ,

Goody

Hi Steve.

Ive been detecting in the GT for about 40 hours now since I bought a 4500. Last weekend I finally found my first gold between some shallow working the are about 2-3 feet deep but were probably much deeper 150 years ago. Before I found these bits I must have found about 3 kilos of steel, led, wire, nails and other things. The area I was in has other peoples detector holes throughout it. You just have to have plenty of patience and stay positive. Here is a pic of my finds, all found in about a 5 metre radius. Good luck

Have a look at this page

I was lucky and found some on my first time out. I have not found much since then. So far I have found it in places that are obvious to where it might be but some bits have been found in the most unlikely places. You just have to walk over and hope your detector picks it up. This included heavily detected areas also. Good luck out there and it will come.
