Hi to you all over the ditch, My name is Roger I have a Minelab x-terra 705 gold pack. I live New Plymouth which is in the North Island half way up the West coast, beside Mount Taranaki. There is no concisions in the North Island for Joe Blow Average to detect for the gold stuff, another problem is that the West coast is solid Iron Sand beaches, so beach swinging is out, If we lived in the South Island I would have access to 31 concisions, which take a fair all thrashing. so I am trying hard to get in the swing of my detector for coins etc. I recon I have watched every You Tube Vid ever made on MD and read the Owners Manual until I just about know it backwards, But Alas I R Bee a Techno Meathead and having trouble figuring it out. But I shell Keep on Keeping on and perhaps to penny will.

All the best to all you Aussie Swingers.

Roger

Welcome Roger

I love my 705. It will look after you and talk to you,. OK it has a slightly different language but it won't take long and you will be fluent in screen numbers and squeaks and wails.

A good start in getting to know your machine is to grab a handful of loose change and some bottle tops/ring pulls and hit your backyard.

Don't dismiss parks and show grounds as they are a lot of fun.

I have seen some great photos of NZ gold finds, so your local training will be essential to success when you get the chance to head south. Just remember you will need to listen to the feint signals, unless you are targeting the coin-size nuggets.

Good luck and welcome to this great hobby.

G'day Roger,

I reckon might be worth having a poke around lake taupo.

Mind you, if it was me I'd be checking out a few of the local and not so local race tracks :)

Back in the early 80's you'd find me swinging my garret down at mission beach (auckland) on Monday mornings during summer.

1000's of locals used to flock to the beach on the weekends and there was always plenty of small change and jewelly just waiting to be found:)

Anyways - wish you luck, can't think of a better way to loll away a few hours
