New to Prospecting

Hi Everyone

Im very new to this great addiction, and haven't really asked for much help but if someone can steer me in the right direction id be greatful. Im currently in the Turon River area and have visited many of the spots (camping spots) along the river, im just stuck when it comes to digging, I have dug up near bedrock, creviced, and even went into the flowing Turon and the large rock areas, quite deep in places and im only finding 1 speck per bucket. Recently I was in Northern NSW and found some lovely gold there, about 1-2 grams, crevicing up from the creeks and going deep, similar to what im doing here on the Turon, I must be doing something wrong, I don't use a highbanker, just a pan and sieve, and I crush up all the clay/mud to water - im almost disappointed with the Turon, not what I expected - I will continue tomorrow though, might go north toward the Upper Turon and try.

Turon is big...what areas are you trying? Welcome! Sounds like u r doing the right thing but maybe just picked some worked spots.

Thanks for the reply Twapster, Ive tried the camping spots, Coles Bridge, where Turon meets Crudine and Greens Point. Ive got a few more days here, so ill persevere, and yes, most of the spots look very worked.

Try the inside leading edge of bends with large sized gravel accumulations. good luck

There is a 4wd track from Sofala to Turon Gates if ur up for an adventure. Or maybe a bit more exploration around Coles. Getting a bit away from obvious areas.

Hi Twapster,

Well your comment on digging in the right place has paid off, I think that was the issue. I decided to stick with the area and moved around to the inside bend as Slowflow mentioned below, I started to find some nice pieces just lifting rocks and scraping off the top soil, some big bits also, I now take my hat off to the Turon, it hasnt disappointed.

I cant help with the Turon. I've only been out a couple of times for a dozdn or so specks. Stick with it. It will come eventually.
