new to detecting

hi i am new to detecting i want to buy a detector i'm not sure what to get i have come to this forum to read all about detectors but they seem expensive i have been reading on google and watching youtube i am inspired that people can find thousands of dollars just sitting in the ground it seems like a good way to go try find some money is there other ways besides detecting to find gold as i don't have a much money

Hi Makarei welcome to the forum. You might be interested in panning for gold, it can be a lot of fun, rewarding, and is very inexpensive. Pans range in price a little but you can pick up a panning kit for about $100. A cheap pan on its own might run between 10 bucks and 30 or 40 bucks. It's a cheap way to get into prospecting.

I like the name.
Choosing the right detector can be a steep learning curve. All depends on what you wish to use it for and where.
It is a very hotly debated topic at times but don't be put off by it all.

G'day mate welcome,
I started with a xterra 705 dual pack and am about to upgrade to a gpx4500
The 705 is a great detector to start out with, great around parks and on beaches but from my experience not good on the gold feilds, if your just starting out prospecting id say start with a pan, then look at a sluice.
I normally spend the mornings detecting then break out the pan and sluice to find some colour for the day so that I'm not going home empty handed!
I haven't yet detected any gold but I honestly think the 705 was not the right detector got the areas I was detecting hence the upgrade hope this helps
