Hello everyone

My name is Simon and im from Sweden.

I have been metaldetecting for one year now, my focus here in Sweden have been coins, or that's what i keep finding all the time at least haha.

My most interesting finds are 3 coins, from 16-1800 century, and one 1873 coin that I found in a ditch made by a tractor in the middle of nowhere.
Part from that ive found maybe 200 coins, stretching in age from 1900 to present time.

Im going to Australia in August, to stay for a while. I will bring my metaldetector (Garett At Pro) with me.

Ive been looking at youtube videos of people picking gold nuggets from the ground in Australia, so hey, why not give it a try?

Im going to Melbourne and what I am wondering is: Does it exist gold prospecting "groups"? that walk together and cover a large area searching for gold, with metaldetectors and other equipment?

If it does exist; Anyone here part of one or know what I should do if I wanna join such a group in Victoria?

Cheers

Simon

G'day Simon, Bendigo is on the tip of the "Golden Triangle" and have an excellent club that have regular meetings and outings.
I believe they are on Facebook (I am not, :) )
Bendigo Prospecting Club

Welcome to Australia

as mentioned above , search facebook for Bendigo prospecting , there are 1600 people on that page in that area so they will help you learn a few basic things on safety in the bush and local regulations

the prospecting licence for that state is found here ;

https://checkout.payments.com.au/dpi_minersRight/

You will need to learn about maps to show the areas that are permitted and those which are not but the facebook crew will help out there a bit and you might like to join them for a barbecue one day and get to meet some of them

good luck

Thanks for all the advice. I Will definitely look up Bendigo prospecting.

Cant wait to go hunting in Australia. Yesterday I had a 2 hour session here in Sweden. I found a 10 re 40% silver coin from 1938; an broach, an earring, and 2 different buttons from prob 16-18 century and some other stuff.

Thanks again to you all.
