I tried out my new Gold Rat custom river sluice on the weekend up in the high country and I love it.
Spent most of Saturday getting 2 x half 20ltr bucket of classified material from bedrock right at the camp site, never realised how time consuming it would be classifying. The bedrock was between elbow and armpit deep and cleaned out as much as I could, even managed a good amount of clays from under the gravel between the rock, the day was getting on and my hands were bleeding from rock cuts so I set the sluice up with what I thought was good flow and proceeded to start running the cons, had to re-adjust a few times to try and get the material flowing correctly. In the end I managed 8 spec's from both buckets, I know I had flow issues, bad panning technique and was getting a bit tired by the end of the day so I probably did well to get the 8 spec's, only 2 were visible and needed the loupe for the other 6, also the fact that this spot is probably receives a bit of attention from other campers/prospectors so next time I will have a much better plan of attack and not be so lazy and impatient, run some test material first to get flow right and put pan at the end to see if anything is getting through.
I'm wrapped with how the sluice turned out, big thanks Dustin. I'll attach a shoulder strap before the next outing so I can load up and hike in to an area that's seen less attention.
