I took the kids down to Widgee crossing on the mary the other day just to get them out of the house and off the tablet...
On the way down the track i noticed unfilled holes by a detec terrorist...thanx for the sprained ankle!
We made it to the river to find fishing nets and a ***** load of rubbish...there were lungfish scales every where!! a protected native specie!!!
There were numerous holes around the waters edge i suspect a dredge was used... they didnt put back the large peices of concrete that protect the gravel bar from erosion....i dont care about digging them up to find gold but put them back its not hard i blinking do it...

I was sooo peeved... i reckon i could have lost it that day..and thats not like me.

I have seen alot of locals with small minds doing ridiculous things to there own town.. what is with you lot!!!
***** on your towns treasures... destroy it for everyone.
Senceless acts of stupidity...

Ok rant over... i feel better now.

Generally I find us prospectors are the good ones( not always thought as there are the minority of dirty bastards around) biggest problem I see is when I go to the favorite fishing beach for a night , the amount of crap left is just plain wrong . Not all from fishermen but the majority is , empty bait bags empty cans discarded line etc. not to mention the fact than stubbies just don't burn in the camp fire. End up taking home way rubbish than what I took.

Good luck to you . If your lucky you'll get a response . If not a recorded message about looking into ya concerns is just what you want.. Especially if your reporting poachers.

Hate to say it Yobskin but the only response will most likely be signs banning fossicking there all together, unless the NPWS can set up cameras there and bust the scumbags doing it. It's usually what happens when they can't enforce something they just ban it for everyone, then the scumbags will probably still go there and do the same thing while everyone else obeys the signs. Sounds like a lose lose situation........

Hope things work out mate.

Cemeras how now been setup in my area to minimize dumping of rubbish and destruction of bush

Its really pisses me off too that people still want to dredge and I'm constantly filling holes too. I think there is someone dredging my local creeks a lot recently and screwing it up here too awesome.

Farmers have spotted it and don't want us in the creek now.. great. Now the banning begins. Thanks idiots.

Just a thought from left field here....What do readers think of those among us who are PMAV (insert your state authority here______) members petitioning the "powers that be" to allow members to become "honorary" Inspectors/Wardens etc (with relevant paperwork) to become stand-in Authorities (seeing as there is no budget for MORE Inspectors) in the instance we happen to come across these low life's?.

We could get the ground info. such as vehicle rego's, names, Licence #'s (& Miners Right if held), pics of damage (AND the offender so there can be NO DOUBT who it is doing the damage) etc (without actually taking action yet put the offender on NOTICE) and then pass this to the department for further investigation & action against these lowlifes.

I have been in this hobby for 8-9 yrs and this is nothing new, yet it does appear to me to becoming more prevalent and with so much ground, and so few Inspectors, we will never get on top of it...a few HEAVY examples in the Courts, & ADVERTISED PENALTIES along with LOSS of equipment(stating its VALUE LOST) may well have a few of the worst pull their heads in and play nice like the rest of us.

This would also have the benefit of displaying to the DSE & the Greens that we wish to be pro-active and CONCERNED, as much as just fighting for our "right" to dig...ie; we are prepared to give something back for our "right" as opposed to just yelling for access.

Anyway...just a rambling thought on another way to combat this behavior and looking at alternatives aside from having a whinge....

I've been talking for weeks to organisiations about the environment and these issues. I really like your idea GGA for inspectors. After speaking to them all I've gathered they all have thier own seperate concerns and that all the groups need to team up into one rather than fighting individual needs. The DELWP are cleaning up after shire council workers, delwp are accidently destroying history whilst cleaning it up so I'm now granted access before they remove the true trash. Rather hard to do this by myself and it took a while to get it across. The FOHC are protecting the plants and wildlife but then also close to sealing off mining history / grounds. They all need to team up with pmav or prospecting clubs and meet agreements for areas

No one inspects prospecting apart from those specific patrolled areas..most the "inspectors" don't even know what a sluice is let alone the rules behind it. All I know is, I take photos of all damage and have a nice gallery full of destruction to show but unfortunately no caught culprits.

I'm hearing that AR...it just seems to me that over the years we, the boots on the ground folks, continually air our grievances about this issue on the forums yet little changes. The MESSAGE of responsible activity and a lack of 'in our face' TV/Radio/Net notifications of PENALTIES handed out is not being heard or frequent enough for the message to get through to the imbeciles and die hard 'who gives a fcuk' types.

These guys are the ones that need targeting and made aware their behavior is not & will not be tolerated. The 'retail' sector could also do MORE in my opinion, over just getting the 'next sale $' in the till. I'm sure there are 'some' among the number that truly are unaware of the REGS..i also see this in my other hobbies...it's like, well if they sell it, it must be legal....without actually "thinking" and going 'out of their way' to EDUCATE themselves...their only focus is on the result and to do it as easily as possible with the least amount of EFFORT.

What i don't understand is...if it's a deep hole that has taken 10-20 mins to dig even if only for rubbish,...it only takes "moments" to refill. I would consider myself a 'lazy' prospector, yet i can still fill my holes and have a hard time understanding just what it will take to get through to these fugwits. I'm sure if caught/penalized and PUBLICLY HUMILIATED....many would change their ways once ALL their gear is CONFISCATED.

Perhaps we could start a campaign of revisiting ALL the previous cases(around Oz) that have had penalties and seizures dished out, draft a list and print up A3 (or larger) posters and have them at ALL prospecting retailer outlets and web pages as the first thing they see when venturing into this hobby. Couple that with the 'exisiting' culprits seeing perhaps a local incident to them, may make them realize there actually ARE inspectors out there & they just may be the next victim of wrongdoing?

Rambling thoughts...

Hey Yobs,

Sounds like some uneducated people, Lungfish, who would eat such a fish with so many bones in them.
I have caught a few up here in the Brisbane and is strictly released unharmed. I don't know why ppl would want to kill and eat one, only thing I can think of is a lack of education on fishing and bag limits, not to mention the do and do not's. Lungy's are totally protected big time, so maybe some visitors caught one and maybe didn't know what it was.
Also sad about the rubbish, Our river banks are generally clean until summer comes around and the bogans and boggetts come out to play.
I have seen them toss bottles into the river and then proceed to try and hit it with rocks, brainless ppl don't think of others specially when children go swimming in there.
I make my boys wear diving booties when swimming.
Also nappies, what is with that, do they leave sh#@ty nappies lying around their backyard at home. Some are just plain to lazy and couldn't care less. Quiet often it just those ppl which are out there for a fish and a swim, I haven't seen any diggers leave there rubbish about yet----touch wood.

Any way, chin up Yobs, I will try and get up there soon for another dig, painting the house at the moment, man I hate painting.

Cheers
Brad...

Nappies? Eww.. I havnt come across that but I agree. If they are lazy enough to leave that rubbish laying around.. imagine what the house looks like. I mean.. I'm a hoarder of tools n rocks but you won't find a rogue nappy shoved in any corner of my house, that's just filth.

I've seen a few lungfish about culled and along lake banks, now I know why ( I don't know much about fishing ).

I'm certainly also with gypsygoldau as well. There must be some way to get an authority to inspect how areas are prospected. I'm not saying all areas as that's impossible, but the most common to be trashed

I'm trying to form a united historical protection group here and it will details many of these issues

I have thought the same in relation to being part of a network to help authorities../help police it.
I would like to help preserve prospecting in all its honesty.
Destroying nature is bottom of the barrel to me total bottom feeders...

@brad anytime good buddy.....i like painting its therapeutic.
I would give an once of yella for some of that.. ;)
