So, I went to Creswick just over a week ago with my Nokta Fors Gold. I've only been into prospecting for about 3 months and I haven't had any gold yet. Anyway, I found the usual crap (bullets, shot, wire etc.) and I also found this piece of what I thought must be lead. It had some weight to it, but it was a pinkish brown colour. I put it in my pocket, thinking it was just another bit of rubbish and took it home. Every now and then I picked it up and felt the weight then I scratched the surface a little to reveal a yellow metal underneath. I immediately thought "brass", I don't know why - I just didn't believe it could be gold (not having found any before). Anyway, I scratched a bit more and revealed what I now believe is GOLD!!! It weighs in at 10grm. I have soaked it in some 9.9% Hydrochloric acid and the crap is coming off it nicely. Can anyone tell me a way of getting ALL of the crap off the nugget please? I'd like it to look like a piece of gold Would pure HCL do the trick? Any help would be gratefully accepted.
