I have had many issues with the deteknix pinpointer, that I bought new from member/site sponser AngerManagement, about 4 months ago.
During its life, it has had button issues, very hard to turn on, and off. The battery cap thread had deteriorated, it wont tighten, and lastly, once it detects a target, it wont stop beeping. So with the product, no I am not happy.

However! Mark has solved the issues everytime. He has fixed the pinpointer, supplied new parts, and has given me prompt, and courteous service. The latest issue (continous beeping) is being fixed, by supplying me with a new unit. Aust post misplaced the parcel, and Mark chased them up, and it arrived today. Anyway I thought Mark deserved a shout out for excellent service :)

Rocketaroo Was being 100% up front...

The problems and issues he and I have experienced would have to be a ONE OFF.

As I said to Chris, had the odd problem with the Deteknix, and easy to fix; but never had all of them - one after the other for one customer.

Then to also have Au Post have delivery problems and loose another; at the same time was just not welcome.

Some will see this as a good reason not to buy - That is their choice :)

Others will acknowledge that sometimes you can get a Lemon !!! And it comes back to Service and Support.

Was I contacted ASAP - Yes.

Have I maintained contact and followed up every time - YES; No news is not always good news.

Have we chatted and looked at parts / replace / upgrade = YES...

At the end of the Day; it is Chris's call....

The replacement has arrived, but Chris may yet choose to upgrade to a Wader... He can then have the option of 9V or 2 x AA.

Sounds like a hell of an ordeal to go through! And you should give AngerManagement a big sloppy kiss.

You think one ordeal will cancel the other? 8) \

:D

At the moment with the blasted Cold and snott everywhere, even the dog's will not come near me. Let alone trying to drink heaps of freshly squeezed lisborn lemon with = parts Brandy..

So always up for a sloppy kiss, as it could clear my cold up... 8)

I'll remember this when I open my package from you lol

So I am going with the wader, choice of AA, or 9v, plus being waterproof, its a worthwhile upgrade. Wouldave gone the wader li, and forget about batteries alltogether, but the budget wont stretch.

An update...

Tested and found it interesting... After about 6 or more power up and test.... No Fault found ???

Checked the insides (unit well used and tape over the speaker) but still; a bit of dust around...

Would not turn on, and auto ground balance, in the manner I expected ????

1: Removed Tip protector cap.. Lots of dust/dirt etc jammed in there.

All tested OK... Tried pushing and overloading etc = all OK..

2: As I found dust internally... Not usually a big problem... ( Have found gravel in others = Vibration not working as jammed with gravel... HOW it gets there !!!)

I gave a bit of a shake up and - and was inconsistent at start up or after detecting an item.

Then removed PCB and Coil; emptied / blew out the accumulated dust etc (Note: - big mistake with my approach - Cold and fuddled brain)

Have spent 1/2 hr testing, shaking, wacking my hand and scratching my head....

Went over my work area, and while the dust was fine in general, a few funny specs... BUT when I used my small under bench compressor, I believe I may have destroyed / lost the evidence...

Just like a coil cover - sometimes there can be enough build up or even fine particles that can get caught and cause problems...

Can not say if bit of metallic crap, was in the Tip protector or loose and floating around the coil... Or if it was even the problem...

Only time will tell.

Take home message.

A: If you use any sort of sheath/protective cover - remove it and make sure it is clean. As to how often = your call.

B: If changing batteries or have the end cap removed - Do not do this with dirty gloves or hands... Any crap that gets in; could cause a problem and or even a leak - if used under water.

At some stage; we all have to take some responsibility for appropriate management of out tools.

I see Detectors head units being spoilt with kid gloves :) Yet coil leads and coils being neglected

AND THEN

Pinpointers get heavily used, lots of knocking and bashing and poking and dropping AND while many perform well, Pinpointers are a key tool are not a $20 toss away item AND NOT indestructible.

So for everyone out there - treat your pin-pointers with a little respect and look after them.....

never thought of dirt in the supplied sheath protective cap. Wouldave been an easy possibility to eliminate myself :) Thanks Mark, its something extra we can do to maintain our gear.
