Hey Fellow Prospecters!! This week i decided to make a backpacker sluice That weighs 2kg and this is what i did!!

1.We cut some slots in a plank of wood:

These are the slots that i cut:

2.We then Painted the sides of the sluice with fibreglass resin:

3.After the resin dried we then drilled holes into the sides of the sluice and into the riffle sections:

4.We made some wooden pegs, put some wood glue in the hole and on the peg. Then hammered them into the holes:

5.We then sanded the whole sluice:

6.We then coated fibreglass resin over the whole sluice again except for the riffle section:
(sorry i don't have a photo for that)

7. Leave it over night so the resin drys:

I tried it this afternoon with a 1/2 filled 6 gallon bucket and this was the result!!! And the spot was quiet visible to the main road:

Good job mate! Can I suggest next time make a flat base and then slide riffle boards on top of that, so you can pull them out for faster cleanup and switching riffles. I love the resin idea, did it hold up alright? Don't forget a support across the top of the sluice to give strength in the shape to prevent the top swelling outwards

I have a 2 man sluice that has every thing that you suggested. i just built this in one afternoon with my step dad!!

it is a great idea, people can see how you have made it and do the same or use whatever they have around the house.
good one for the young'n's over the holidays.
