Mt Surprise and Georgetown information and questions

Any one know much about this area ,followed some leads about a place called flat creek at george town only to find access road closed off ,this was a open public fossick area but ajoining property owner gated the road ,

Mate it was the lease holder on Flat Creek that blocked the road by all accounts, mines dept has ordered then fence removed not sure what will happen,

Hi All.
It has been a while since I logged on, however, as we are on the road again does anyone have some advice for fossicking at Mt. SURPRISE.
I have listened to others in my camp and there seems to be lot of conflicting comments regarding the camping and the actual fossicking.
Some good advise would be appreciated by this novice.

If you have a look at the qld govt site, if my memory serves correct, MtSurprise has a fossicking area that you can not camp on. you can camp nearby. have a look at this link http://www.qld.gov.au/recreation/activities/fossicking/north-qld/obriens-creek/
