Mount Isa and Cloncurry

Does anyone know what the track is like to the Maltese Cross field? We were told it's too rough and not to go. The turn off to the track is between Cloncurry and Mount Isa. Is there other places to go in the area?

I went out a few months ago and wasn't to bad but you will need a 4wd. i think the turn off is about 40km out of mount isa but double check that. there is a book called cloncurry trails and its a book of maps to fossicking areas and what you find there. it also tells you what the roads are like to get to them.
