Looks like web belt attachments to me....did you find any old woven cloth strip near them (if found in the same general area that is)..

No i didn't but i did put my shovel into what looked like a really cool small bottle under the buckle. Bugger

Ouch...something i'm sure most of us have done in the early days...

I know a guy wrote off $2K value off a nugget he hit with the pick...big gouge down one side made it UGLYY as...

He took a few bevvy's to get over his haste....and disappointment.
