G'day

Just wondering if anybody has been using the minelab vanquish in the goldfields?, I have been considering it as a detector for use in goldfields areas to hunt old town sites, but not really for looking for nuggets as I realise its a coin and relic machine but mainly for hunting coins, and was wondering how it handles the hot soil conditions as it will handle mineralised beach sands and salty ground, cant seem to find any reviews on the subject so some first hand user information would be what I am mainly looking for, thanks in advance

cheers

Judging by the 146 views to this subject and 0 replies it would be safe to say that no one on here has used one of the Vanquish detectors in the goldfields, might be a case of suck and see, just might have to hang on the the sovereign gt a bit longer.

Mate any detector can find gold in Vic.
But.
There are limits.
In the past several weeks I have found a few bits that a VLF could have found. All up about half a gram. They were surface little pings. But, they were amongst dozens of positive true targets that a VLF would not have heard.
Today, VLFs are muck abouts or accompany to PI machines. Not primary detectors. Yes good if used to purpose or accompany but not as primary.
But, that is never to say that anyone could never find a "banger" but that is a life changer with a VLF today or in the future!
Because you know what!? In all my time detecting, the majority but not all, no not from me, were in range of a VLF.
Check the history. Most of the big BIG nugs were found in the VLF days. Check the history again, even in pulse days the big ones were within a foot or bit from the surface.
No matter what you use your in the game mate. Been around enough to know that. Yep, a pulse is better, but anything is better than nothing. :Y: Have a go :Y:

Thanks for the reply, like I said I was not thinking of it for hunting gold just for hunting coins and relics on old town sites in goldfield areas, just wondered how it would perform in hot ground is all, something light weight and compact to stash in the car with good discrimination, my first gold detector in the eighties was a Garrett ground hog and I remember well how touchy that sucker could be, was tempted many times to chuck it up into the trees and shoot at it.

Pi detectors are the only way to go for gold and I would not waste my time hunting for gold with a vlf one, but alas the pi's have crap discrimination and are not suitable for hunting trashy town sites where the coins like to hide as they will just make you crazy digging all the crap, it can be mind bending with a vlf with discrimination at times also due to many types of metals that are non ferrous buried along with the good stuff but at least you can cut out the bulk of it.
