Hi all,
I'm new to forum, I browse your posts from time to time. Figured I could contribute a little info here and there.
My name is Ryan, live in Melbourne, prospect mostly Vic. My great great grandfather was the first to discover a payable gold field in Vic. (Clunes) I have a bit of gear as far as prospecting goes. I don't really have a preference, depends on where I feel like going as to what I take with me. I build all my own equipment. After years of trial and error have managed to get most things right. Still keen to learn new ideas.
Talk soon
Cheers Ryan

Hi Casper
My Great great Grandfather is Dr Herman Bruhn. He was a Dr and a Geologist.
The story in brief is that he was out in the Triangle prospecting 6 months prior to the gold rush in Vic. He found specimen gold at Clunes. Word got out at the pub. Weeks later Esmond turned up with a prospecting party. Samples were sent to Melbourne at the same time, both received rewards. Esmond received a larger some because he sent a large purse/sample and had a official party on the field. Bruhn only spoke German and sent his letter with samples to Melbourne and had to be translated.
There was a lot of investigations into false claims on who was first on most of the fields.
However it is well known in our family that Bruhn bailed on a wife and 13 kids to find gold prior to the government posting rewards for payable fields. I think he was financial when he went walkabout, so the family didn't starve.
There is a bit of info on the Internet if you google his name. There is a few variations to the story, we all know how the bush telegraph works.

Yeh he gets a mention, there is three sides to every story. I was told after Bruhn got his reward 500 he set of around the world lecturing. I suppose he had credentials, with a major discovery, he was qualified and he was RICH.
